Advent is a special time in the life of the Church. We anticipate the coming of Christ and, for many of us, time with friends and family, gift giving and gift receiving. During this season, we want to offer a special thank you for your support of the four, churchwide Special Offerings. The ministries made possible through your giving and support bear witness to God’s active presence in the world. As you celebrate Christ’s coming, remember that the presence of Christ is still alive and transforming lives because of you.

Christmas Joy Offering Resources

It’s time to prepare for the Christmas Joy Offering, received by most congregations on the fourth Sunday of Advent, December 22. Resources should be in churches now. If you have not yet received your standing order, or if you would like to request additional materials, please call Customer Service at 800-533-4371. Additional Christmas Joy resources, including videos, regional Minutes for Mission, and a sample sermon can also be found on our redesigned website.

Meet the Special Offerings Review Task Force

Did you know there is a Special Offerings Review Task Force reporting to the 224th General Assembly (2020) in Baltimore? Its members are: front row TE Raul Santiago-Rivera, RE Linda Badger Becker, chair, RE Tamara Williams; back row RE Vince Patton, and, PMA staff Bryce Wiebe and Margaret Hall Boone, and TE Steve Marsh. The purpose of this Task Force is to review and evaluate the Special Offerings and its recipient ministries and to consider new Special Offerings purposes in light of established criteria.

Four for Four Churches Feel Connected

By receiving all four of the Special Offerings mandated by the General Assembly, a Four for Four congregation declares its connection with the ministries of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and joins in the efforts of Presbyterians around the corner and around the world to share God's grace and endless love. As Hannah Lovaglio, Associate Pastor at First Presbyterian Church in Cranbury, New Jersey, states, "It reminds the church of the connections it has with those who benefit from each of the offerings. For example, those who are impacted by disasters are lifted up by One Great Hour of Sharing, and our youth are encouraged and supported by the Pentecost Offering."

How Will You Use Your 25% of the Peace & Global Witness Offering?

Many congregations and mid councils took part in the Peace & Global Witness Offering on World Communion Sunday. If you are part of one of those congregations or mid councils, we’d love to hear how you plan to use your retained 25%. For instance, for the second year in a row, Hunting Ridge Presbyterian Church in Baltimore is using its funds to lift up peacemakers in their own backyard. They are working with a local middle school, encouraging students to draw posters that convey the message of peace during one of the city’s quarterly "Cease Fire" weekends. With their 25%, Hunting Ridge Presbyterian Church provides "Cease Fire" t-shirts to poster contest winners, lauding their works of art for the important messages they convey to the school and community at large. Let us know how you plan to promote the Peace of Christ with your 25% of the Offering!

Links of Love

The Presbyterian Giving Catalog recognizes how the power of each individual gift, when joined with others, makes a significant and lasting impact for people and communities around the world. And we want to demonstrate this truth through a fun, engaging activity called Links of Love that will make visible the collective efforts of generous Presbyterians just like you! We’re building a paper chain, one that stretches as far as the eye can see, made up of a collection of smaller ones sent in by congregations like yours who have participated in this activity. Each congregation’s paper chain will be constructed with links that represent a gift given. We invite you to join our efforts and share your progress on social media using the hashtag #smallgiftsbigimpact!

Receive Your Very Own Artisan Ornament

For gifts of $150 or more to the Presbyterian Giving Catalog, you will receive this beautiful, handcrafted ornament as a token of our thanks. This cross is sustainably crafted by a group of artisans in Palestine from the sprouts and pruned branches of established olive trees - a symbol of special significance in Bethlehem society. Through their cooperative, the Holyland Handicraft Society, these artisans earn stable income and receive assistance in developing and selling their products.
