Young Adult Volunteer Program

After living through a year of uncertainty, leaders in the Young Adult Volunteer program — like many people around the world — are adapting to a new sense of normalcy. Although we are still in the wilderness in some ways, we are beginning to see the light illuminating the way forward. After conducting a year of virtual programming around Matthew 25 and YAV Core Tenets, 2021–22 YAVs will serve in person!

They will have the option of serving at any of our seven sites within the U.S., or at international sites in Scotland and South Korea. We have made some modifications, like conducting YAV orientation virtually, and evaluating the well-being of all sites to ensure the safety of all participants, site coordinators and ministry partners.

Ministry at the intersection of faith, race and justice

During her service as a Young Adult Volunteer (YAV) with the PC(USA)’s Office of Public Witness in Washington, D.C., Langley Hoyt (right) saw more clearly how her faith and her God "relentlessly call each of us to work for justice and healing in all areas of our lives."

YAV fellow creates a ‘toolkit for grieving children’ while serving virtually with the Office of Christian Formation

The Supporting Grieving Children series, created by Grace Smith during her time as a YAV fellow, is the first series of resources to use all three of the Christian Formation templates — Compass Points, QuickSheets and Resource Roadmap.

Mark your calendar for Presbyterian Youth Triennium 2022

Presbyterian Youth Triennium 2022 will be held on the campus of Purdue University in Indianapolis on July 24–27. Although we are about a year away, it’s time for Presbyterian youth and young adults to make plans to attend this life-changing Matthew 25-focused event. The theme of the 2022 Triennium is "When did we see you?" (Matthew 25:31–46).

Important dates for the 2022-23 YAV service year

Oct. 1, 2021(Application season opens)

Jan. 1, 2022(Round 1, all sites available, early placement)

March 1, 2022(Round 2, deadline to apply for international sites, most sites available)

June 1, 2022(Round 3, deadline to apply to national sites, limited spots available)

YAV is a faith-based ecumenical volunteer service program of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). Since the early 1990s, more than 1,700 young adults have participated in YAV service at 45 sites in 19 countries. Several mission co-workers, pastors and church leaders have experienced a YAV year of service for a lifetime of change.

The Young Adult Volunteer program, a ministry of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), is an ecumenical, one-year service opportunity for young adults ages 19 to 30. For nearly three decades, YAVs have listened for God’s call in their lives, while serving alongside partners at sites in the United States and around the world.
