Young Adult Volunteer Program

After living through a year of uncertainty, leaders in the Young Adult Volunteer program — like many people around the world — are adapting to a new sense of normalcy. Although we are still in the wilderness in some ways, we are beginning to see the light illuminating the way forward. After conducting a year of virtual programming around Matthew 25 and YAV Core Tenets, 2021–22 YAVs will serve in person!

They will have the option of serving at any of our seven sites within the U.S., or at international sites in Scotland and South Korea. We have made some modifications, like conducting YAV orientation virtually, and evaluating the well-being of all sites to ensure the safety of all participants, site coordinators and ministry partners.

Join us for the (virtual) Commissioning Service of our 2021–22 YAVs at 5 p.m. (EDT), Aug. 22, at facebook.com/yavprogram. We are grateful for your past support and your faithful commitment to journeying with us on the road ahead. Because of your continued prayers, cards of encouragement and donations, we are moving out of the wilderness.

Matthew 25 Church

The Young Adult Volunteer program, a ministry of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), is an ecumenical, one-year service opportunity for young adults ages 19 to 30. For nearly three decades, YAVs have listened for God’s call in their lives, while serving alongside partners at sites in the United States and around the world. We invite you to join us on this journey to become a Matthew 25 church.

Jesus calls us to act boldly and compassionately to serve people who are hungry, oppressed, imprisoned and poor. We rejoice how our re-energized faith can unite all Presbyterians for a shared and holy purpose: our common identity to do mission. Over 900 churches and mid councils have accepted the Matthew 25 invitation to help our denomination become a more relevant presence in the world by building congregational vitality, dismantling structural racism and eradicating systemic poverty.
